Black bear
The black bear is a mysterious and, above all, a rather secretive animal. This large mammal can easily be conditioned to go to a precise location each day to get food. This way, the Pourvoirie du Lac Dégelis offers two bear hunting sites that are baited several days before the hunt arrives to familiarise the animal with the location of the these sites. Moreover, these sites are equipped with two huge observation points to ensure your total safety during your hunting experience. As of today, Dégelis’ success rate reaches 90%.
Usually, males can weigh up to 135kg and females approximately 70kg. Many specimens killed in Dégelis had an exquisite white mark on the bottom part of their throat adding to the beauty of their spring coat.
When it is carefully prepared, bear meat is appreciated by many hunters. However, take care, as this meat must be well-cooked before consumption due to the parasitic disease affecting some specimens.
Bear hunting can be practised with a rifle during spring and with a bow or a crossbow during fall.
